FA Statement on Emirates FA Cup

The Football Association (FA) has released the official handbook for the 2023-24 season, outlining important updates and changes to competitions and regulations. One significant announcement is the return of mandatory replays for FA Cup games that end in draws up to and including the Fourth Round.

Law Changes Explained

The FA has also introduced several key law changes for the upcoming season, including:

Goalkeeper Restrictions

Goalkeepers will no longer be allowed to handle the ball outside their penalty area if it is intentionally played by a teammate.

Free Kicks

Defenders must now be at least 1 meter away from the ball during free kicks, reducing the potential for encroachment.

Timekeeping

The time taken for substitutions, VAR reviews, and medical treatment will now be added on to the end of each half.

FA Cup Replays

The FA has confirmed the return of mandatory replays for FA Cup matches that end in draws up to and including the Fourth Round. This decision aims to maintain the tradition and excitement of the competition.

The FA Handbook 2023-24, including the full list of law changes, is available for download from the FA website. Clubs, managers, players, referees, and spectators are encouraged to familiarize themselves with these updates to ensure a successful season.
