Gabrielle Thomas: Olympian and Harvard Graduate
Early Life and Career
Gabrielle Lisa Thomas was born on December 7, 1996, in Florence, South Carolina. She attended Harvard University, where she competed on the track and field team and graduated with a degree in neurobiology.
Professional Success
After graduating from Harvard, Thomas signed a professional contract with New Balance in 2018. At the 2021 Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, she won the 200-meter race with a time of 21.61 seconds.
Tokyo Olympics
In Tokyo at the 2020 Summer Olympics, Thomas won the bronze medal in the 200-meter race. She became the first Harvard graduate to win a track-and-field gold at the Olympics.
Continued Success
In 2021, Thomas continued to excel in the sprinting world. She won the women's 200-meter event at the IAAF Diamond League athletics meeting in London.
