Carolina Panthers to trade Tommy Tremble to Los Angeles Chargers

Trade brings back much-needed draft capital for the Panthers

Carolina Panthers trade depth piece at tight end, Tommy Tremble to the Los Angeles Chargers for a 6th round NFL Draft pick in 2024. Tremble requested a trade out of Carolina following them drafting Will Levis in the first round, citing that he wanted to be a starting tight end. Tremble started 6 games in 2022 for Carolina, primarily as a blocking tight end and caught 16 passes for 180 yards and no touchdowns.

Chargers bolster their depth at the tight end position

The Chargers receiving corps was bolstered significantly this offseason with the additions of DeAndre Carter and Keenan Allen returning from injury but the team needed some depth at the tight end position behind Gerald Everett. Everett coming off a career year himself, missed four games with an MCL sprain and veteran Richard Rodgers is entering his 11th NFL season.

The Chargers sent a 2024 6th round pick to the Panthers for Tremble's services and could give him a chance to carve out a role in the Chargers offense as a pass catching tight end. Tremble is 25 years old and entering his 3rd NFL season, so the Chargers are adding a young player to their roster at a very cheap cost.

The Panthers receiving corps also bolstered their room with the additions of Sumler Campbell and Josh Downs through the NFL Draft so a trade was inevitable for either Tremble or Ian Thomas.
