R. J. Hampton (born February 7, 2001) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Orlando Magic of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Hampton was born in Dallas, Texas. He attended Little Elm High School in Little Elm, Texas, where he was a standout basketball player. He was named the MaxPreps National Player of the Year and the Gatorade National Player of the Year as a senior in 2019.
After graduating from high school, Hampton joined the New Zealand Breakers of the National Basketball League (NBL). He averaged 8.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game in his one season with the Breakers.
In 2020, Hampton was selected with the 20th overall pick in the NBA draft by the Denver Nuggets. He was traded to the Orlando Magic on draft night.
Hampton has played in 82 games for the Magic, averaging 5.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.
2020-21 Season
Hampton played in 63 games for the Magic in the 2020-21 season, averaging 6.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.
He started 28 games for the Magic, including the final 26 games of the season.
